With 20 exhibitions and 300 events a year, the Hammer
Museum needed an intuitive and elegant visitor interface
powered by a robust content management system. During the
design phase, Surface Streets worked with the Hammer to establish a
distinguished visual style, uncover user motivations and identify
publishing needs. The initial architecture supports past, present
and upcoming exhibitions, searchable online collections, a
sophisticated programming section, and easily discoverable
information about the organization. As a second phase, we
added an Expanded Digital Archive that allows the Hammer to
publish artwork, essays, and ephemera from past exhibitions
that would have otherwise been inaccessible.
